Our Story

Meet the driving force behind Super Millets: Shilpa and Meha Kumar, a dynamic mother-daughter duo. With a Masters in Environmental Management and a degree in Architecture, Meha's passion for sustainability mirrors her mother Shilpa's steadfast commitment to all-natural living. Growing up in a household of naturopaths and yoga enthusiasts, Shilpa imparted the enduring insight that "Actions speak louder than words." Shilpa, a successful businesswoman for 25 years prior to the onset of Covid, specialized in green and sustainable gifts for companies. Her expertise in this field continues to inspire our approach to holistic health and wellness.


Based in Mumbai, Super Millets emerged from a mission to support farmers adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing their struggle to transport fresh produce to the city, we launched a program in Nashik. This initiative aimed to assist smallholding farmers in monetising their perishable goods without incurring any losses.


In our endeavor, we serendipitously discovered the incredible benefits of millets. Not only do they bolster our immunity, but they also pave the way for a healthy, disease-free lifestyle. Beyond personal wellness, millets represent a sustainable choice for both farmers and the planet.


Guided by Shilpa Kumar, our team resolved to introduce these intelligent, nutrient-dense superfoods in a way that seamlessly blends taste with health. We curated a product line that is authentic, preservative-free, user-friendly, and firmly re-establishes millets as a dietary staple. Shilpa crafted a distinctive batter that not only yields delectable Dosas but can also be transformed into Millet Dhokla, Uttapam, Pancakes, and nutritious waffles for all ages.


During the initial wave of the pandemic, we sparked a mini-revolution within our family and circle of friends. We introduced them to the extraordinary world of Millets, aligning with the global shift towards prioritizing health and immunity.


The firm belief that "We are what we eat" set the foundation for Super Millets. Encouraged by the positive reception of our Dosa and idli batters, Meha urged her mother to broaden their reach and conduct a test run of their preservative-free, stone-ground batters & gluten free, healthy pizza base. The response was overwhelming. Super Millets now proudly offers a range of organically grown, local superfoods – all gluten-free and cultivated traditionally by our farmers.


For our team, this has become more than a business venture. It's a shared mission: "We look forward to sharing with you our passion for healthy food without compromising on taste, all while benefiting our Farmers and our Planet."


Our journey was further inspired by the UN decaling 2023 as the International Year of Millets and their campaign stating Millets: Good for you, Good for the planet & Good for the Farmer too. This led us to embrace the advocacy model, propelling our mission to promote this incredible superfood.
